Mexican Train game night kit
For activity directors, clubs and family hosts: a large-print rules handout, a large-print score sheet and a house-rules checklist. Each one prints on a single page, and they’re all free. Every sheet has a code people can scan to play on their own phone.
Tips for a great game night
- Put it on the big screen. Open Loco Motion on a tablet or a TV in the common room and play the computer together. Everyone calls out which tile to play.
- Make the Daily Deal a morning activity. Everyone gets the same deal each day and one try at it. Compare dots over coffee and see who did best! Open today’s deal.
- Agree on house rules first. Print the checklist below, circle Yes or No, and tape it to the table so everyone knows how you’re playing.
- Want a smaller rules sheet? The one-page printable rules (a free PDF) fits nicely in the domino box.
- Mix real tiles and phones. Play with a real set at the table, then hand out the rules sheet so residents can keep playing with family on their phones.
- Questions? Email support@playlocomotion.com. A real person will answer.
Mexican Train: the rules
2 to 8 players · a double-12 domino set · 13 rounds
- Start in the middle. Put the double-12 in the center. It is the engine.
- Draw your tiles. 2 to 4 players: 15 each. 5 or 6 players: 12 each. 7 or 8 players: 10 each.
- Match the numbers. On your turn, play one tile that matches an open end.
- Where you can play. Your own train, the Mexican Train, or any train with a marker on it.
- Can't play? Draw one tile. Still can't play? Put a marker on your train.
- Doubles get covered. Play a double, then play again. Nobody plays anywhere else until it is covered.
- Go out and score. The first player out of tiles ends the round. Add up the dots left in your hand. Lowest total wins.
Next round: start with the next double down (double-11, then double-10, all the way to double-blank).
