Mexican Train Rules
2 to 8 players · a double-12 domino set · 13 rounds · lowest score wins
- Start in the middle. Put the double-12 in the center. It’s the engine for round one.
- Draw your tiles. Turn the rest face down and mix them up. Draw your tiles (see the table). The rest is the boneyard.
- Play one tile a turn. Match an open end on your own train, on the Mexican Train, or on any train with a marker.
- Can’t play? Draw one. If it fits, play it. If not, put your marker on your train. Anyone may play there until you play on it again.
- Doubles get covered. Play a double sideways, then play one more tile. Nobody plays anywhere else until the double is covered.
- Go out. The round ends when someone plays their last tile, or when no one can play and the boneyard is empty.
- Count down the rounds. Next round, start with the next double down: double-11, double-10, all the way to double-blank.
Tiles each
| 2 to 4 players | 15 |
| 5 or 6 players | 12 |
| 7 or 8 players | 10 |
Groups vary. Everyone draws the same number.
Scoring
Add up the dots left in your hand. Going out scores 0. Double-blank: 0, or 50 if that’s your house rule. After 13 rounds, the lowest total wins!
Smaller sets: double-9 = 10 rounds, double-6 = 7 rounds.
