Privacy Policy
Effective October 3, 2026 · Last updated October 3, 2026
Loco Motion is a Mexican Train dominoes game for families and friends. This policy explains what information we collect when you play, why, who helps us run the game, how long we keep it, and your choices, including how to delete your account. We try to collect only what we need to run the game.
- You can play against the computer without an account. An account (email and password) is only needed to play with friends online and to keep your progress on more than one device.
- We don't sell your information, we don't use analytics or crash-reporting tools, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
- Your friends can see your name, your look, your game stats and whether you're online. Your email address is never shown to other players.
- You can delete your account and its data at any time from inside the game.
"Personal information" means information that identifies you or can reasonably be linked to you.
1. Who we are
Loco Motion is made by Sean Benedict, an independent developer in Texas, USA ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Loco Motion web app at loco-motion-dominoes.vercel.app, including when you add it to your home screen, and any Loco Motion app we publish in an app store.
Privacy questions and requests: support@playlocomotion.com
2. What we collect
If you play without an account
Games against the computer, the practice round (tutorial) and Daily Deal practice run on your phone. Nothing about them is sent to us. Your phone still connects to our hosting provider to load the game (see "Technical information").
Your account
- Email address and password, used to sign in, keep your account secure and send account emails such as password resets. Your password is stored only in scrambled (hashed) form by our account provider; we can't see it.
- Today the same sign-in also works for two other small apps made by the same developer. Loco Motion keeps its own game data separately, and we plan to give Loco Motion its own sign-in system.
Your profile
- Display name, the name other players see. If you don't pick one, the game starts you with the part of your email address before the "@"; you can change it any time in your profile. Names are checked against a list of offensive words.
- Your look: the train, whistle, table, tiles and other items you choose.
- Your settings for "Findable by friends" and "Show when I'm online".
Friends, invites and blocks
- Your friends list, friend requests you send or receive (and whether they were accepted, declined or cancelled), and the players you've blocked.
- Invite links. Each link holds a random one-time code (not your name or email). We keep a record of who made it, when it expires and who used it.
Games with friends
- The players at each table (their player ID and display name), every tile dealt and played, the moves, scores and the game log. This lets everyone at the table see the same game and pick up where they left off.
Quick reactions and whistles
- During a game you can send preset reactions (like "Nice!") and blow your train's whistle. These go straight to the other players at that table and are not stored. There is no free-text chat.
Gifts
- When you send a friend a gift from the Ticket Booth, we record who sent it to whom, what it was, its price in tickets, an optional short note (up to 80 characters, seen only by the person you send it to), and when it was opened.
Online status
- While the game is open, it checks in with our server about every 15 seconds. We keep only your latest check-in (the time and which game, if any, you have open). We use it to show friends you're online or playing (unless you turn off "Show when I'm online") and to avoid notifying you about a game you're already looking at.
Notifications
- If you turn notifications on, your phone's notification service gives us an address and security keys for your device so we can deliver them. Notifications say things like "Sam invited you to a game!" or "Your turn!", so they include the display name of the player who triggered them.
Progress, tickets and the Ticket Booth
- Your game stats and progress: games played and won, rank and points, streaks, daily challenge history, achievements, your Daily Deal results, tickets, the items you own, Rail Pass progress and an unfinished game against the computer (so you can finish it on another phone). These sync to your account.
- Ticket history. A record of every ticket you earn or spend: when, how many, why (for example a win, a daily challenge, a pass reward, the practice round's Whistle Ticket, a gift or a Ticket Booth item), and game details such as your finishing place and the player ID of friends you played with. The game creates a random ID for your device (not your phone's hardware or advertising ID) so rewards aren't counted twice. Unusual ticket balances are flagged automatically so we can check for errors or cheating; a person looks at flagged accounts, and we don't remove tickets or items because of an automatic flag alone.
- Tickets, passes and items are earned in the game. Loco Motion doesn't currently sell anything or show ads. We'll update this policy before that changes.
Reports
- If you report a player, we record who you reported, the reason, any note you add, where it happened (for example at a table) and the reported player's name at that time. The reported player isn't told who reported them.
Technical information
- Like almost every app, the services that host Loco Motion automatically log technical details of each request, such as IP address, device and browser type, and the time. These logs are used for security, preventing abuse and fixing problems, and are kept only for a short time set by those providers.
When you contact us
- If you email us, we keep the conversation so we can help you and keep a record of your request.
What we don't collect
No analytics or crash-reporting tools, no advertising trackers, no location from your phone, no contacts, photos, microphone or camera. Sharing an invite link uses your phone's own share sheet; we don't see who you send it to.
Kept only on your phone
Your settings (sounds, speed, look, name), an unfinished game, and small notes the game uses to work smoothly are stored on your phone. They aren't sent to us except where they're part of your synced account. Signing out removes your stats and saved game from the phone and turns off notifications for your account on that phone; your settings stay until you delete the app or clear its data.
3. How we use your information
- To create and run your account and let you sign in on more than one device.
- To save and sync your progress, tickets and items.
- To let you find friends, invite them and play together online.
- To send the notifications you turn on.
- To keep the game fair, safe and secure: preventing duplicate or faked rewards, reviewing reports, filtering offensive names and enforcing our Terms of Use.
- To answer you when you contact us, and to meet our legal obligations.
We don't use your information to build advertising profiles, we don't sell it, and we don't share it for targeted (cross-context behavioral) advertising, as those terms are defined in US state privacy laws. We don't use your information to train artificial-intelligence models.
4. What other players can see
- Finding you: if "Findable by friends" is on, signed-in players can find you by typing part of your display name or your exact email address. Search shows only your display name and look, never your email. If it's off, nobody can look you up; you can still send people an invite link.
- Friend requests: someone who finds you, or opens your invite link while already playing, sends you a friend request that you can accept or decline. A new player who signs up through your one-time invite link becomes your friend right away.
- Your friends can see your display name, your look, your game stats and progress (for example games and wins, rank, points, streaks, achievements and Daily Deal results), and whether you're online or playing (unless you turn off "Show when I'm online"). Friends can invite you to games and send you gifts, which can send you a notification.
- Players in a game with you see your display name, your look and everything that happens in that game.
5. Safety: names, reporting and blocking
Display names and gift notes are the only things players type that other players see. Names are checked against a filter for offensive words. If a player bothers you, you can remove them as a friend, and you can report or block them from their profile, from a friend request, or by tapping their seat at the table. You can also email support@playlocomotion.com. Blocking someone removes them from your friends and stops them finding you, sending you requests, seeing when you're online or inviting you; they aren't told. We review reports within 48 hours and may rename, suspend or remove accounts that break our rules.
6. Services that help us run the game
We use a small number of providers. They receive only what they need to provide their service to us.
| Provider | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase (on Amazon Web Services, United States) | Accounts, database, live games, account emails | Everything in section 2 that we store |
| Vercel (United States) | Hosts the game and sends notifications | Request logs; notification address and message |
| Apple, Google and Mozilla notification services | Deliver notifications to your device | Notification address and message |
| Google Fonts | Loads the game's lettering | IP address and device/browser type |
| jsDelivr | Delivers a code library the game uses | IP address and device/browser type |
Legal requests and safety. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith it's required by law (for example a valid subpoena or court order), or needed to protect someone's safety, investigate fraud or abuse, or protect our rights. Where the law allows, we'll tell you first.
If the game changes hands. If Loco Motion is sold or transferred, your information may move to the new owner, who must follow this policy or tell you before making changes.
7. How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Account, profile, friends, blocks, stats, tickets, items, gifts and ticket history | While your account exists |
| Online status | Only your latest check-in, replaced about every 15 seconds while the game is open |
| Games with friends | Until the host deletes the game, or until the host or you delete your account |
| Notification address | Until you turn notifications off, sign out on that phone, delete your account, or the notification service tells us it has expired |
| Invite links | Until they're used or expire, and while the inviter's account exists |
| Reports and emails with us | Up to 2 years, then deleted |
| Hosting logs | A short time set by our providers |
8. Delete your account
In the game: open Settings (or your Profile), tap Delete account and confirm. Your Loco Motion data is erased right away and you're signed out.
Without the game: email support@playlocomotion.com from the address on your account with the subject "Delete my account". We may ask you to confirm from that address, and we'll finish within 7 days.
What's deleted: your display name, look, settings, stats and progress, tickets, items and passes, ticket history, Daily Deal results, saved game, friends, friend requests, the blocks you made, invite links, gifts sent to you, notification addresses, online status, any closed reports about you, and every game you hosted. In games someone else hosted, your name is replaced with "Former player", so the other players keep their game history without your name. Gifts you sent that haven't been opened yet still reach your friend, without your note. Other players' own records (for example their ticket history) may still contain your old player ID number, but once your account is gone that number no longer links to anything about you.
Your sign-in: because your email and password currently also work for two other apps by the same developer, deleting your account in the game erases your Loco Motion data but leaves the sign-in itself. If you want the sign-in removed too, email us and we'll remove it within 7 days. When Loco Motion moves to its own sign-in system, deleting in the game will remove it immediately.
What we keep, and why: a note that your account was deleted and when, plus anything we must keep to comply with the law or resolve a legal claim, such as an open report of serious abuse, only for as long as needed.
9. Your privacy choices
- Play without an account: games against the computer don't need one.
- Delete your account: see section 8.
- Notifications are optional. Turn them on or off in the game or in your phone's settings. We don't send promotional notifications.
- "Findable by friends" and "Show when I'm online" can be turned off in your profile.
- Friends: remove, report or block a player from their profile.
- Ask us: email support@playlocomotion.com to see, correct, get a copy of, or delete your information (see section 10).
10. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to tell you what personal information we have about you and give you a copy in a common format, correct information that's wrong (you can change your name and look yourself in the game), and delete your information (see section 8).
Email us from the address on your account. We'll confirm who you are before acting, answer within 45 days (we'll tell you if we need up to 45 more), and never charge you or treat you differently for asking. You can use an authorized agent; we may ask them for proof. If we turn down your request, you can appeal by replying with "Appeal" in the subject line; we'll answer within 60 days, and if you're still not satisfied you can contact your state attorney general (in Texas: texasattorneygeneral.gov/consumer-protection).
US state privacy laws (including Texas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and others) give residents rights like these, plus the right to opt out of the sale of personal information, targeted advertising and profiling. We don't sell personal information, use it for targeted advertising, or profile you in ways that have legal or similarly significant effects, so there's nothing to opt out of. We don't collect sensitive personal information.
11. Children and teens
Loco Motion is a family game, but accounts and online play are for people 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and the game isn't directed to children under 13. Children can play against the computer without an account; in that mode nothing about them is sent to us.
Parents: if you believe your child under 13 has created an account or given us personal information, email support@playlocomotion.com and we'll delete it.
12. Security
Information travels between your phone and our providers over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), and our database provider encrypts the data it stores. Database rules limit each player to their own private information and to what section 4 says other players can see. Only the developer can access the database, and only to run and support the game. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information. If a breach affects your personal information, we'll notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
13. Where your information is processed
We're based in the United States and store and process your information in the United States. Loco Motion is offered in the United States only. If you use it from somewhere else, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the game changes, and we'll always change the "Last updated" date. When a change is significant (for example, new kinds of information collected or a new use of it), we'll tell you in the game before it takes effect. We won't use information we already have in a significantly different way without your consent.
